make sure that your vehicle isn't one that the lighter only turns-on with the key on. check to make sure that the lighter is actually working with a source that works in any another vehicle, i.e. a cellphone adapter. also, make sure that when they were being installed that a wire wasn't pinched or a circuit board or something wasn't cracked/broken.

iv checked all that and its all fine. but when i was installing them, i wired one up first to see what it looked like and it came on for a second then went off. so i moved the plug around and it came on again for a second then went off. but when i plug phone chargers in they work fine. iv checked the fuses for the 12 volt plug and there fine. so what else could it be?

it could be the plug it came with that u plug into the lighter. maybe a defect of the contacts on the plug are not making good contacts in the socket

i hard wired them to where my other LED's are (which are working) to the ignition. and after a while the wires started smoking which i presume means there is to much current going through them. but they did work fine which is gud. so do i need sumit to step down the voltage?

You need a resistor too, I forget what size. Then get an ADD A CIRCUIT from MCM Electronics or local, and wire it up to an acsry fuse.
