New HO alternator vs. stock rebuild

I found a local alternator rebuilder that said they could re-wind my factory alternator to 200+ amps for about $100. Could this be a viable option over buying a $300 new model with the larger case and such? 
My wife will never understand why, lucky for her!

No, all this does is put more heat into the same size case, end result is a alternator that will fail even faster than it did before.

Yup, and most likely he can wire it to 200 amp , , but probably has ZERO idle output and the 200 amp output is probably at about 9 grand on the ticker.  The HO alts specificaly built will give you a high output at idle and top out just above your normal driving rpm making them very useful.
