Speakers shorting out at high volume

Hello everyone, I tried to install a radio in my friend's 2000 Millenia the other day (last time i try to do that). Anyways, I bought a harness and the most I got out of the aftermarket headunit was the CD ejecting when I connected everything. Point is that I put everything back to stock form and when he put the volume up, the whole system would die; speakers would crackle a few times and then poof, turn off. I checked the ground and the wires behind the head unit and everything was fine. He took it to a radio install place and they installed his system (head unit and subs) and he still has the same problem when he puts the volume up. What could it be?

I had this same problem when I had some components hooked up to my deck. I think you might be having a problem with having too low of an impedance, and when you crank the volume you are, in essance, shorting out your deck. First it starts to crackle (on the verge of short), then it just avalanches and shuts off. If you have a crossover check it out, maybe they're not hooked up properly, or maybe they're defective. - This is just ONE theory... Does the car have a factory amp? If so you will have to bypass and run wire directly to speakersWOW Sight and Sound
