I took my grandmas (mine now) 1994 buick park avenue base model to a local sound shop yesterday to get quoted for some install and labor work. The guy from the shop took one look at my door pannel where it says "Concert Sound II" and looked like he had seen a ghost! he started stammering that most people refuse to work on cars with such factory systems in them and that I would be lucky to have anyone work on my car.

He stated that if they did it, they would charge me an arm and a leg for labor because of how time intensive it would be to dismantle a factory system like that. Are they for real and is it really that complicated to install a new system into such a car? (I am providing them with a deck, two amplifiers, 4 speakers and 2 subs and just asking that they complete the wiring, and thought of doing it myself) He said it would take three times as long to wire a car that had Concert Sound II in place. I have searched both on here and google.com for more information about the factory system but can find nothing. Can anybody tell me something about it or similar systems in luxuery vehicles? i have never owned one. thanks.

go to another shop or 2 and see if they get freaked out like that too.

that is what i am on my way to do. i am posting asking if anybody has any experience with installs on cars that have factory sound systems, factory amps, weird wiring, etc...

If your going to bypass the entire factory system its just a simple re-wire, 2 hours tops, then hook up the amps and speakers 3 hours, tuning 30 min. Id say a 5-6 hour job for a good shop....that guy that quoted you isn't very bright for shure.

sounds like the guy wanted to completely remove all the factory stuff...i dont see why it would be such a problem bypassing anything like alpine guy said.

I agree with alpine guy. This car is a pain in the butt if you just want to add a deck but since you are completly redoing the whole stereo it doesnt matter what it starts out as. If they are installing a 4 channel amp to run the speakers than they should be reruning speaker wire anyways which means they arent doing any more work than usual. In short, they are jerking your chain.

I agree, the second I saw your equipment list, I knew that it would be a complete new system + complete new wire job. Just like a complete new set of tires....... not hard at all.

Okay I am going to print this thread out and bring it to the shop. Perhaps I didn't explain well enough to them that I wanted everything bypassed. Thanks for your help guys.
