Ive been considering making a similar, but simpler custom dash for my ford escort. Ive never done any fg work before, and the thing i cant quite figure out is how you mould the new fg dash over the original, and yet the new dash fits where the old one was. I would have thought that the new dash would be slightly larger as it was formed over the original, and would then not fit. what am I missing?

You just fill in the holes, man ... get some ABS Plastic, Super Glue, Mud of your choice, maybe some light FG Cloth & Resin, sandpaper ... & get busy. If you're no painter, take it to a local Body Shop for Finish Work & Paint.

yeah, you're not making a new dash really, you're more like heavily modifiying the old dash.  You dont make a mold off the old one, then make a totally new piece to replace it.
