Can someone point me in the right direction with hooking up two amps to 4 12's. I know how to hook up the subs to the amp, however I guess my question is will I need a crossover or something to be able to use two amps?  Does that make sense?

Amps normally have built in crossovers.

yea, i have all built in crossovers, however I guess what i am asking is, If I use two amps for 4 subs, do I need to just use a "y" RCA cable from a single RCA output?

You are either gonna need a pair of Y cables to spilt the RCA lines or if the amps have a "through output" then you can just run the rca's into the input on 1 and then use a second set to go from the "through output" to the input of the next amp.

Just make sure both amps are set exactly the same.
