Ok, i made a post a couple weeks back about putting a HU in a 2002 eclipse spyder with the infinity system in it. i was told i could have to run new wires to make it work with the factory amp or buy a 100 dollar adapter. i ran all the necessary wires and decided to run the speaker wires off of the wiring harness of the HU to the speaker wires at the factory amp, all good. worked great, i was pleased, about 3 hours later the speakers cut off, the HU is still on and functioning just no sound. whats the deal??? i figured it was mabe a positive speaker wire touching a negative or something of that nature, so i checked the speaker wires that i had ran from the HU to the location of the factory amp (by the way i soldered all of the connections) all were appropriately covered in electrical tape and couldnt find anything wrong. i also removed the HU and checked the connections on the wiring harness. please if any one could give me any suggestions i would be greatly appreciated. oh yeah i also thought it would probably be best to just run all new speaker wire but figured i'd check to make sure it wasnt possibly any thing else (because it previously worked). thanks

If at anytime a speaker lead touches the opposing lead, you will have burned out the speaker lead outputs of the HU and you will have to have it repaired. To test remove all the speaker leads and have a single speaker to attach each of the speaker pairs coming off the deck to see if each speaker leads produce sound.

right on, i tested two of the four channels and they didnt produce sound so i figured the other two are bad also since there wasnt any sound at all. what you reccomend i do? i was thinking just running all new speaker wire and a different HU. i just dont know how a + and a - would have touched, when i soldered all the wires and taped them the HU wasnt hooked up so there wasnt any power to anything. if a + and a - touch without power, nothing should happen right. thanks

You can use a multimeter set to resistance, and test dc resistance of the speakers at the deck.  (A blown speaker could cause this problem.)  Also try testing each of the speaker leads for continuity to ground.  It's possible one of the wires has frayed and grounded against a piece of metal (in the door or elsewhere).

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.

yeah, i ran all new speaker wires and put new 6.5" in the front doors so the speakers are fine. thanks though

test the resistance of the rear speakers. If im not mistaken the speakers in the infinity system in those eclipses are very low impedance speakers, which could have screwed your deck if doesnt have any type of protections circuitry.

thanks i'll check them, i took the HU back to best buy and they swapped it out for another one which was nice. and put the new one in with all new speaker wiring that was soldered, shrinkwrapped, and taped. so i shouldnt have a problem with a + touching a -. i want to thank everyone for their help it was very usefull. and the complete wiring guide i found on the12volt. thanks again
