this ones for the alpine guys.

what would the drawback of not hooking up the speed sensor wire on this unit?

here is the reason: customer called a few months ago to have a hu and nav installed( his equipment). the vechile is a 1995 lambo diablo. the equipment is new.... alpine IVA-D310 and  the  852 nav. i havent installed this nav unit before and am looking for a little heads up.

most of what ive seen from no hookup of the vss has been no voice guidence or studdering screen movment.

this is not a daily driver and has taken 4 months to schedule this. everythig else is straight forward.

thanks , XS

I dont think there would be any drawbacks to not hooking it up. It is only for if the gps is not getting a signal that the unit can adjust the location via the speed of the car. Mine is not hooked up on my car.
Most be nice to work on a exotic car ;)

james048a - I was wondering about this as well. If you don't hook up the speed sensor wire, can you put in addresses and seach POIs while the car is in motion?

Everything works as normal without the VSS hookup with the exception of vehicle progress when the GPS signal is lost.  You still have vehicle direction from the gyro, and if signal lost is just momentary the GPS will pick up on progression once the signal is regained.  However, if you live or travel in an area with a lot of tunnels as I do, you may want to use the VSS pulse.  Otherwise, its not that critical.
