I was cleaning out an old cabinet at work and stumbled across an assortment of LEDs. These don't appear to be labeled in any way and I have no idea what they were used for in the past. What I want to know is... How can I tell what these are? Is there some secret way to tell? The bag probably has 50 to 100 LEDs in it, of various colors. So it would be a shame to throw these things away.

I would take them to like a radio shack or any place that sells led's and have them help you figure it out.

only way i can think of that you could find out is to get a variable power supply and just start at 2V and work you way up, most LEDs are 2-4V

sell them on the internet, they sell new for about $.32 to $.65 each. they are used, but whatever.. haha.. just sell the bag of 50 for like $7 + shipping

I would have to second silverado42000.

To my knowledge there is no way to tell what color or voltage a LED is by just looking at it. If you don't have a variable power suply, and you have a few AA or AAA batteries laying around just wire two of 'em in series to get 3v (that should be pretty close). I think that would be the simplest and quickest way to check.
