Im doing a little research on replacing my alternator on my 92 chevy lumina z34 3.4L dohc.
The stock alternater is a small case cs-130 105 amp.
Now what i found is an alternator for a 1996 lumina apv van 3.4L engine that came with a cs-144 large case 140 amp alternator.
I would think that the cs-130 and the cs-144 would be interchangable, but i really have no experience swapping alternaters so im looking for some insight as to will it bolt up the same? will it fit in the cramped quarters of my engine compartment?
Any help at all is usefull!
TIA,Mike

The CS-144 is a large case, the largest of the alts really.
If you can make the brackets to make it fit go for it, but it will not be drop in.

I dont know if the other lumina's came with A large case Alt.   I know the most typicall mod that need to be done is an uper bracket with more movement, and sometimes the lower part of the alt needs to be slimed down by 1/4 of an inch..which can be done with an angle grinder.
Then the belt, this is the most frustrating part, make sure you go to a shop where you can take belts back cause you will probably try alot of them, till you find the one that fits just right

i looked through alternater part numbers and found the 1996 lumina APV van 3.4 litre v6 came equipped with a 140 amp cs-144 ,the motor should be roughly the same as the 92 lumina?, gonna do some more research....
