99/00 Chevy Malibu Radio Issue

ok this is for my sisters car. she had some engine work done to the car recently and since then she has had to enter the security code into the radio to get it to work. its the stock radio that came with the car. now she doesnt remeber the code and cant get it to turn on. i'm wondering if there is a way to reset it or do something so it will work. any help will be of assistance, thanks in advance

ok, i was just doing some research on here using the nifty search option and found that its the theftlock, all the articles i found (3) had useful info but the links within them about unlocking it didnt work. so i'll continue to research

in the vehicles we have had problems with this in. the number is usually in the glovebox or in the owners manual. check it out.

If the code is not available, you will have to reomve the radio, get the serial number and usually provide the VIN# to the dealership for the code.

Don't remove the radio and don't try entering codes. If you have entered more than 7 incorrect codes, you must have the car's ignition on for minimum one hour before anything can be done. Take your car to a GM dealer and they can unlock the radio very easily. They can pull a back up code out of the radio and use it to derive a proper unlock code. Have them either tell you the code so you can record it or deactivate the system so it won't lock unless you decide to put in your own code.
