i've got two jl 12w3v2 in a sealed box and i was wondering about buying/making a new ported box.

how much change in the sound would this make, and would it change the quality at all?

Yes, it will change it significantly and can lead to speaker damage in some cases if not done correctly.  You need to model your speaker(s) in something like WinISD before you simply change enclosures.

I usually make the box to the manufacturers spechs expecially with JL they know how to build the perfect boxes for there equipment... some companys never master that...

I dont care about who has the bigger name in the business... The Bigger the name the Bigger the price. NO BETTER QUALITY!!!
