hey guys. i just got some kappa 5.25" components. im confused about how to power them though. i always thought for components rms ratings were measured at each crossover (ie:rms 100 watts, just send 100 watts to the crossover), but these have two seperate rating for midbass driver and tweeter. here are the specs. this is the owners manual. scroll to page 4. http://manuals.harman.com/INF/CAR/Owner%27s%20Manual/KAPPA%20COMP%20OM%20LR.pdf.  if anybody knows what to do please let me know. thanks

Your speakers are rated at 85 watts per channel.  They are 2-ohm components by the way.  The separate tweeter power rating is given because it is possible to bi-amp these speakers.  Ignore that if you are using a single amplifier channel per side.

Bi-amping gives you more control over the individual speakers. For example, if you wanted to change the crossover point slightly, or attenuate the tweeter to a greater/lesser degree than passive crossover allows, you could do so. That's right, you wouldn't use the supplied crossover anymore since you'd be using the amp's built in crossover.
