I have an led scanner that i picked up a couple years ago laying around and just decided to try to install it. Does anyone know how or if its possible to install this with my factory alarm/keyless entry system? I want to put it behind the grille of my 2000 Impala LS. Thanks for any help, Brad Thomsen

LED scanners usually have two wires : Red, Black. Connect Red to B+, connect Black to brown ACC wire of vehicle.

It will scan at all times whether it's armed or not execpt when the key is on ACC or RUN.

Actually my scanner has three wires yellow, red, and black.(constant, switched +, and ground respectively) Everyone on here is suggesting to switch by the ground, but this one has changable patterns and memory so the same pattern stays when switched off. the only thing i saw was a relay in another post that may work, but im not sure. Thanks for the help though.

If the scanner requires a positive signal on the yellow for it to scan then inverse the switched positive to negative input using a transistor or relay and then either use the brown ACC of the car as mentioned above or to the constant groundout of the aftermarket security system.
If using a relay, make sure it isn't active to enable the scanner.
Instead of rambling on, I'll ask: Does power on the yellow enable or disable the scanner?

the yellow is for memory, so it stays at the same pattern when it turns off and back on. i can find a place for that, but i need a wire thats on only when the car is off for the red wire.

i should have mentioned above, the red and black wires alone will turn it on, but it has no memory without constant power(yellow).

OK, because the scanner requires a positive signal on the red for it to scan then use a relay.
Connect the red of the scanner to pin 30.
Connect pin 86 to an ACC or IGN.
Connect pin 87a to B+.
Connect pin 85 to ground.
The instant the key is off it will scan.

Go to any automotive store and get a standard Bosch type relay. Make sure it's not a fog light relay with two 87 pins. Your relay should have a N.C. contact identified as 87a and a N.O. contact identified as 87.
It'll look like this:
