I use TiteBond wood glue - as long as your cuts are straight, and you're not trying to use the glue as a filler it works excellent. Great strength after it dries. Ive been using it for about 5-6 years and have not had a box fail on me yet.
As far as nail size.. when I am building with 3/4" MDF I use 1-1/4" brad nails about every 3-4" apart. and with 1/2" MDF I use 1" brad nails.
Ive had my Porter Cable Brad nailer for over 5 years now and its still working great. It was the first PC branded product I purchased, I liked it so much, Ive gathered a collection of PC tools over the years; 18V drill, palm sander, jig saw, upholstery stapler, router all going strong.
