Depends on the car and the headunit in question. Most aftermarket headunits will sound better than most factory units regardless of power. Now this isn't always the case obviously as in my opinion the Lexus produced Mark Levinson sound system is one of the best car audio systems aftermarket or otherwise. however to answer your question yes I do believe that aftermarket radio's do generally produce more power than factory amplifiers but I have no actual facts to back this up. --->Richard2008 Scion xB

Not necessarily or even likely... Any decent OEM amplifier will incorporate at least a SMALL switching power supply, boosting the rail voltage to above 12v pk-pk and providing more power than nearly any aftermarket deck, the Tri-Path units being one GLARING exception, with 70W times 4, RMS, and that's REAL power. I believe JVC had one a few years back, and there may still be a few in production. My opinions aside as to "how good they sound", relative to each other are not in the question, therefore, not in the answer... It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."
