how hard is the mecp test?

Thinking about taking the Mecp test, so I can become an installer at Best buy, or some other shop. Do I need to get the study guide for it, or is this test just general electrical knowledge.

What's the difference between the basic test and the advanced test? Should I just take the advanced test and get that study guide? I just want to install somewhere...ex. best buy, or some small shop. Thanks

do the basic then the advanced. This may be your ticket  into best buy, but most independent shops it holds little or no value. Use it to get a ajob at best buy, use best buy for experience that will hold value anywhere.

Anyone know what's on the advanced test? My boss wants to bid for some new programs which requires their installers to be certified. I've been installing professionally for over 13 years, and have good knowledge of car electrical systems, pertaining to security/convenience, audio/video, relays, etc, although i haven't done much enclosure design in quite some time. I was figuring on taking the advanced test, but does it require knowledge of specific things that you don't need to remember in real life (ohm's law, etc), or do you think someone with experience can breeze through it? Should I get the study guide or just go in cold?

I'd say with the study guide you can at least get an idea of what to expect. HTH.
