Yes any alternator can damage a battery if it puts out higher voltage than the battery is designed for...example the alt puts out 16-17 volts and overcharges the battery and it explodes

Yep overvoltage will kill them. Run a battery charger at the high setting for an hour or so and then listen to the battery. Sounds like eggs frying. I've seen lowriders blow up batteries by overcharging them and then hooking up the ground. Sparks+gases=BOOM!

Im pretty sure he means a properly designed HO alternator, it can't fry your battery unless there is something wrong with it ie. putting out too much voltage and not regulating the current like it should.

The same thing could occur with a stock alternator and or regulator.
