WOW – In a world when we all need the mpgs, why are we still using DRL’s?  Well… I for one would like to turn off mine on this 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up. With the best lubricants installed, the $8.00 each for spark plugs, and getting the fuel saving 2.2, 4 cyl. motor, I still can only get 21 mpg’s. (That is driving 65 mph in a posted interstates 75 mph limit)  I traded a 2002 cavalier with the same 2.2 that I was able to boost the mpgs up from 26 when I bought it used at 40,000 miles to 36 mpgs when I traded it with 78,000 miles on it.  While I have boosted the mpgs up from 17 when I bought this S-10 used with 60,000 miles to the weak…current 21 mpgs at 71,000 miles, turning off the drl is the next thing to do.

by DRL do you mean daytime running lights? if so then there should be a fuse which says DRL on it and you can just pull that and it should be all good. on a side note I thought that it was only cars up here that had DRLs.
or there should be a DRL module located somewhere under the dash and if you unplug that then that should solve your problem. My best suggestion would be to trace the wires from the light switch and you should come across the module.

there will be either a fuse or a main relay.

There is another way. I did this on a friend's truck while installing wig wags for his headlights. There is a switch on the parking brake that turns them off when the brake is engaged. I used a double pole double throw switch for the wigwags. On one circuit was the wigwag and on the other circuit I connected to the terminal on the brake switch. Nothing was altered and the DRL's still worked. You could do the same thing (without the wigwags). That way if for whatever reason, you have not disabled them permanently.

Check out lightsout.org.  They have instructions for various vehicles - I agree that DRLs are a major nuisance.

Unfortunately it's usually more involved than pulling a fuse or relay tedmond, that will tend to cause the "Service Vehicle" light to come on(which can't just be erased with an OBD-II scanner), and on headlight DRLs it may cause the low or high beams to not work, since many GM DRLs just use the relay to wire the headlight bulbs in series.
