Alternator Charging Light Problem

Hi all,

I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this, but there seems to be a lot of knowledge on these forums so here goes... I have rewired my VW Beetle recently with a Watsons Streetworks wiring kit, (which is awesome by the way)....and everything is working fine except the alternator charging warning light. I orignally had a 12volt bulb installed for the alternator charging circuit warning light which worked fine but have since replaced all my warning lights with bigger, better, brighter 12volt LED warning lights, but now the alternator charging light won't go out when the car is turned on and running like it used to! Any ideas why this would happen? If I have to take the LED out and replace it with a standard bulb again to get it to work properly I will, but if there is anyway to make it work with an LED that would be better

My alternator is a Bosch A82X internally regulated 1 wire model.  I am thinking that because the LED is a lower resistance than an equivalent standard 12volt bulb, this could have something to do with the light staying on???

Yes . . . Find out the power / wattage, or the current the bulbs consumes, this will tell you how to figure out the resistance to be placed in series to the LED. you have to have the bulb in the circuit   the regulator gets its voltage to energize the rotor via the bulb which allows a small amount of current through. the led does not allow enough current to flow to the reg/rotor hence will not work .  try putting bulb back in with led in parallel will then will workmountainbiker rules
