I am looking to hard wire my garage door opener remote into my Xterra. I tried having the remote always on and then applying power but that won't work with my remote. I have a Chamberlain Security+ remote. So, I'd like to make turning my high beams on the switch using the remotes battery.
How do I get the activation of high beams to complete the garage door opener circuit?

Use a relay.  Contact 85 goes to ground, 86 goes to high beams.  When the high beams are turned on, the normally open contacts (30 and 87) close, and complete your circuit.

Thanks for the help.
Hopefully my last question - The remote has a 3V battery in it. Will my vehicle's 12v coming from the high beam into the relay cause a problem in the remote?

No- the 12v from the high beam circuit simply energizes a coil that magnetically pulls the contacts closed.  They are isolated from each other.  I'd also add a diode across the coil as well.  This will prevent voltage spikes from jumping around.  Put it backwards from how you normally would- stripe side on the side with the high beams.

I'm not familiar with diodes. Could you tell me what kind I would need and how to hook it up?
Thanks.

1 amp diodes will be fine.  They are one-way valves for electrical current.  You can get a 25-pack at Radio Shack for a few bucks.  Just hook it up like noted above- stripe side to the high beam side of the coil, other side to the ground side of the coil.
