I might be getting a job offer from Best Buy as a car stereo installer. Anybody know what the base pay is for this position? I already got an offer from Sears as a Tech I which averages out to $12-22 after commision. I have an interview at BB in a few days and was just wondering before proceeding any further with either.

No experience actually. I've done many jobs on cars on my own cars and on friends'. I've installed stereos, speakers, alarms, door solenoids, monitors, rewired shorted wires, etc. I feel competant enough to accept a job and say I'll do well but that's if they'll have me.
Actually after doing a quick search on this forum I wouldn't mind going through and getting an MCEP certification to use later on in life. Only problem is my guess for starting pay is about $8.00. No thanks considering what Sears is offering. I kinda need to make more money now considering I've got 2 kids and bills.
Only problem is I am no longer fascinated with the car audio "scene". Don't get me wrong, I hate the components but I love installing them. Kinda weird. I could spend 10 hours doing a stereo installation and enjoy every minute of it. But when it comes time to turn on the 1000+ watt system I can only stand listening to it for about a minute. I guess I'm just old fashioned.

I'd enjoy doing the installs. The only thing that concerns me really is the poor management that I keep reading about. Not too mention that I have friends with first-hand experience at the local BB.

depends on where you are.  When I started there, with no "verifiable" experience, I started at 11/hr.  Mind you uncertified, fulltimer.  Not a lot, but it worked for me at the time.
