Hello, I have a 2002 Civic EX (2 dr, aut.). My cruise control light stays on and my speedometer doesn't work and also as a result the engine light comes on. If you disconnect the battery, the engine light goes away but the cruise light stays on and after a while the engine light comes back on.

Do you guys have any ideas?

Thanks, Dave.

Sounds like the switch is defective for the cruise switch. The speedo problem you may have to bring to the dealership because the new Civic's use an electronic tach signal not a cable tach like they use to. If this is a 2002, you should still have warranty on it unless your over your mile's ?

Hi Jeff,

See I don't think that's the case. What happened with this vehicle was that I installed an alarm/starter on the car. Now for about a year I was driving it and there was no problems. After that, the cruise light began to come on periodically. And after a while it stayed on for good. See, now i thought there might have been something wron with my instalation of the alarm, so the other day I removed everything leaving only the bypass module on the car. But that didn't solve the problem. The reason that I mentioned the two problems together is that they are totally related. When the cruise light comes on (which is 99% of the time) the speedometer doesn't work, when the cruise light goes out by itself (the remaining 1% of the time) the speedometer catches the signal and shows the correct speed for a split second and then cruise light comes back on and the speedometer loses the signal and reads zero again. It kind of flickers, you know what I mean? Kinda like having a short of some sort. Anyways, I hope my description was better this time around and you understand my problem better. I also totally understand that it extremelly difficult to troubleshoot over messages back and forth, so any help you might have is greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Dave.
