Need to install cruise on my new 2006 Cobalt. Only need to hook up the set button if that will work. Assume it all runs off the computer with drive by wire.

Use Rostra Cruise:
250-1775 Cruise Control.......Comes with Steering Wheel Control & 10 Minute Install
You WILL have to have the Dealer use Tech 2 & Candi Module to turn ON

The 2006 model won't take cruise anymore. The programming is locked and can't be changed.

2006 cobalt cruise -- posted image. Thanks MO! Would like a bit more info if you have the time. I know the service manager down at Chevy so can get it programmed.
Does the control attach to the bottom of the steering post? Assume a wiring connector is just underneath where the bottons install.
Thanks

The 250-1775 comes with a WIRELESS Steering Wheel Control 2 - Button Unit.

Very Nice........

4 wires on the Passenger side consule
Then you have to have TECH 2 with UPDATED Candi Module to Program
The hardest part is inserting the single wire that goes into the Factory Plug..

I would very much like to hear from you mo12v on this topic. I have done a few 2006's and then found something has changed on them. What used to work, now doesn't. I will do whatever I can to return the favour.

I got my mail, but I can't return any as your inbox must be jammed full. I do the same thing you do to enable these cars, but have now been locked out. GM has changed something in the BCM that locks out programming after a certain production date. Clean out your inbox and I can fill you in with more details.

Got with the Chev service mgr today and got the schematic for the cruise circuit.
Power comes from the BCM fuse 19, connector c4, pin f9. Goes thru the airbag module coil, thru an on-off switch to the right side steering wheel contor bottons. A resistor sets up a voltage divider circuit with the resistor in the BCM. The set and reset switches parallel the first resistor with other resistors changing the voltage divider set point.
Does anyone have a way to measure the resistance across C1 in the steering wheel (pins 6&7 or 3&4)? Once those values are known, its easy to make a switch that will emulate the wheel ones. Need to measure the resistance without either switch activated and then with each switch activated. The "activated" resistances should be less than the unactivated one.
My service rep seems to think that the programming is already set up. Just getting the right voltage divider circuit will do the rest.
