I currently have a 2001 Dodge 1500 with the audiovox ccs 100 installed in it (to the best of my knowledge)

I have a couple of questions in regards to this unit

1) Does my truck have a VSS? The unit is currently wired usiing the magnet system on the drive shaft and my understanding is that if your vehicle has vss that you do not need to use this.

2)The unit is currently not working, as soon as I start Driving the control unit powers up without me turning it on

3)When it was working it was only usable up 120 kms, is this normal?

I did a some reading on the this site, and I am going to assume that my dodge has a VSS, and that I should get rid of the magnet setup alltogether. Which wire off of the audiovox unit do I need to connect to my VSS wire on the truck?

How Do I locate the VSS wire on my truck (I have noticed that I do have blank wiring harnesess on my truck and wondering if one of them is for factory cruise if it had it)

Is there anything else I will need to change to make this work properly?

Any input is appreciated as I have never installed one of these before.

Rostra is the company that makes that cruise control. If your truck has a VSS wire it will be a WHITE/ Orange wire in a white 32 pin connector on the passenger side of the engine bay near the firewall. The VSS wire in the cruise is Gray. You will need to reset the DIP switches in the cruise for a 8,000 PPM setting. DIP switch 1 and 2 must be turned ON. The magent kit is fine to use as long as it is installed correctly. The sensor must be half an inch from the magnet when it passes by it and the sensor should be mounted so that suspension travel doesn't alter this distance. The sensor usually needs to be mouted to the motor so it will move up and down in conjunction with the drive shaft. For front wheel drive or front axles, two magnets, 180 degrees apart are required. Only one magnet is needed when using the rear drive shaft. You should first check the electrical circuits for the cruise before scrapping the magnet system. Do a web search on the cruise part number and you should be able to find an install manual. If any of your brake lights are out, this will cause the cruise to not work.

I just checked my truck and it has a white 31 pin connector with an orange wire and ORANGE / black I do not see an ORANGE / white.

What about the speed sensor at the rear diff ,it only has two wires on it. Are they usable?

The reason I want to get rid of the magnet is that I work in the Oilfield in Alberta and I am constantly in extremly deep mud and s--t. This is how it got wrecked in the first place.

Also there is currently only one wire running to the magnet, it is a coax style wire (insulated wire inside of wire)

Is this correct?
