Hi everyone. I am new to the world of sub box building so any extra comments are welcomed. I was toying around with the port calculator on this site and notice that all of the results are given out in port length. Its that the overall surface area or side by side length. Example:

Port Diameter(D): 3               Box Volume: 4.0                 Tuning Frequency: 32

This equaled out to a port length of 2.4562500000000002

To simply for this, I just rounded to 2.46 so does that mean it should be 2.46 on each side. Which would give me a total surface area of 6.05. I imgaine that I can change a few side lengths around, but mantain the surface area then it will still be OK. Hopefully, I am not somewhere way in left field, but if I am please let me know and if possible provide examples. Thanks in advance

The port used in the calculator is round, not square, or rectangular or whatnot. You'll also have to consider what subwoofer you are using. That will affect the port length. Some need a shorter one, others a longer one. I would recommend using WinISD to get a more accurate finishing size. It's free too. Just google for it. It's not that I don't like the one on 12v, but the math does not account for suspension, the mechanics of the sub, etc. WinISD will account for that and do a pretty accurate job of getting you what you want.

What subs are you planning on using?
