How to seal/paint MDF sub box resin/caulk

I was told by a few people on here to paint on a thin layer of fiberglass resin then sand, primer, paint, and clear coat... But should I lay down a bead of silicone caulking first, then cut back the access with my finger or whatnot? Then let that dry, and paint on the thin layer of resin after. So when the resin dries and I sand it there will be no just rolled clean seemless edges? Thank you for your reply!!!

The 'glass you apply to a cloth/MDF joint will bond strong. The MDF is pourous, and this will allow the resin to permeate. Of all the boxes I have made with MDF/Fiberglass, I have never caulked or applied extra sealant. I do paint on a thick coat of resin with added filler to the inside, though. The caulk is an extra step, extra time, extra money. I think you should save it. DXAV

put to silicone on the inside of your box!If you can't be good, be good at it!

If you are using resin then there is no point to using caulk or silicone. Take the excess resin from the outside of the box and brush the seams on the inside. If you weren't working with resin then I would use silicone/caulk.Certified Security Specialist
