Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone that has/seen the glassworkz dvd's know how well the resin mix he uses is. The way he does it is with like 2 quarts of resin and 3-5 quarts of "aerosil". I want to try and use it but im not able to find the aerosil powder. i was wondering if anyone in here has tried it, or know where to get it and how much. also how much mekp would you use to have it set up right.

yea man u can buy the aerosil at www.uscomposites.com about $60. bucks for a ten pound bag which should last ya quite a bit.

You use it instead of laying layers of glass on top of your fleece. It makes the resin really thick and you put it on the inside of the box.

Sounds like a lot cleaner solution rather than having the matting which is really annoying to work with.

Anyone seen the glassman DVD's? I would like to get them, or maybe if someone has them they can burn them and then I'll pay for you to send them to me.

Hey Guys...

I've seen the glassworkz DVD's and I'm an administrator for there forum. The aerosil is used as an expander for the resin. It make your polyester resin as thick as peanut butter,Using expander in your resin make your job so much faster, and there's no need for chop mat.( NO MORE ITCH SKIN)..I mix 1:2 ratio. 1resin 2 expander. You can buy expander at your local marina or on-line at http://www.shopmaninc.com/westfillers.html your looking for "406 Colloidal Silica.

I am really really considering getting them. I mean sounds like it would help me out immensely with my job.

So the expander makes it so you don't have to use mat anymore for subs? So you could just lay a thick layer of that, let it soak into the clothe and that's it?

Yeah, thats it.. Just remember, you apply the resin expander to the inside of the enclosure not the outside...

I'm not saying your stupid... But I know someone that apply it to the outside of the enclosure..

Why wouldn't you apply it to the outside as well as the inside?

The outside is some-what smooth already, If you add resin expander to the outside, you'll have alot of sanding to do, and you defeat the perpose of the resin expander.
