After I have my fg box done, do I leave the dowels in for support? I thought that I would remove them and try to lay a little glass from the inside. Do I need to do that or will the ring stay strong with just the glass over the top. Thanks for any addvice.

Leave the dowels in for support. If I recall correctly, someone wrote a tutorial that tried FGing in the inside and it was a just a pain with the dowels. There really is no structural value to that at all. Just FG the ends of the dowels to the interior on the ring and the base supporting and call that done.

It depends on how your dowels are in place. If they are screwed in you may be able to leave them. Also make sure thay don't interfere with your speakers fitting in the box. I always remove mine because I use hot glue to hold them in place. I also like to glass around the edges of the rings from inside the box to ensure that they are not going to move.
