I am wondering if this box, sort of a U shape will be any good. 2 Polk GNX 12" subs, ~ 2.5cubic feet of airspace, sealed. The subs are in another box that is only 36" wide and I have 48" to work with now. The amps will be mouted in between the subs. Hence the reason for the U shape. I removed them from the pic to simplify what you are looking at.

This is a view from the back.

Like it loud but also like some good tight punchy bass which the box they are in now has.

Well this is my opinion only. Its a plain jane box thats for sure. Not an eye catcher. If its only for the sound then fine its good. If you want sound and looks. Keep thinking. Bottom line, does it work for your setup, is it going to sound good, and still allow you every day use of the trunk? Thats all.

keep the u shape, could prove interesting. use mdf rings and dowel rods to extrude the speakers from the back polygonal shape, stretch cloth to give it curvature. double check for the interior volume however. mount some amps on there or something and you got something more than 'just the norm'.

ah... if its gotta sit with speakers facing a specific direction you might have to have two flat shapes then build curvature off those.

the idea is that there's nothing 'box' in a car, and as such, neither shold the after market stuff be either. slight curves, beveled edges, and sloping lines are a winer. its where it becomes an art form.

I am going to have to say that it is a bit boxy. I would stick with just MDF on this design. I am about 5 layers into an enclosure that has sweeps and curves. MDF is much quicker for your design but if you concave and contour the "U" between the subs fiberglass would be ideal for shape and beauty. You could build your amp rack in the center of the U as well.
