The car is a 2008 Scion xD.
200W Inverter hardwiring.
Where should I pull power from?
What I want to do is hardwire my inverter, so I no longer have a cigarette plug for it. Most likely, you are going to suggest that I run it with the shortest amount of wire to the battery, with a fuse on the (+). Now, what gauge would be best? I was also thinking about hooking it up to a relay, but I am not sure if I want it to be on whenever the car is on, and not be able to turn the inverter on with the car off as well. Obviously, not being able to turn it on could be a good thing, but I am well aware of the damage and trouble you can cause by draining a battery too far. If I were to use it with the car off, it wouldn't be very long. Now, what I honestly want to do is have a small switch (don't like big ugly toggle/flip/etc switches) hooked up to a low current supply like one of the ign wires for constant power, then hook the power from the battery up to the relay and then ultimately to the inveter. This way when I turn the switch on, the inverter comes on. Good idea? Does that make sense?
Cell phone charger.
I want to hardwire this as well. I think I am just going to cut off the cigarette lighter plug off of the wire, and solder it right to the back of the existing cigarette lighter (most likely wires). Would this pose any problems?
Quick double check on my math as well. Charger puts out .75amp@5v. From my calculations, I would need a 9.333ohm5.25 watt resistor, correct?

Do not use a resistor to drop the voltage on your phone charger.  If you insist on freeing up your cigarette lighter, you have a couple of choices.  First and probably the best choice will be to go to an auto parts store and purchase a Cigarette lighter socket.      Hard wire the socket, insulate it and mount it in the dash.  Second would be to solder wires to the parts of the plug that makes contact with the lighter socket and hard wire that to the back of your socket.

The problem with the resistor is that it depends on current draw to drop the voltage.  When your battery is fully charged it will be pulling no current throgh the resistor and your phone will be seeing 12 volts or real close to it.

Okay, so what if I rip apart the charger and take the internals and just hardwire them. Trying to avoid buying anything else, don't see the need to keep all that crap behind the dash.
Any comments on the other stuff?
