I'm looking to install a Parrot Handsfree kit in my wife's '02 Taurus wagon w/o Mach audio.  Unfortunately, it appears Parrot does not make an interface harness for that model.  Has anyone installed a Parrot kit into a Taurus?  If so any thoughts or recommendations?  I assume I'll need to run wiring to the radio control unit in the rear?  I can use the universal wiring harness which would eliminate the need to cut the Parrot wires but I'm not sure if that would be worth it.

Thanks!

There is no REAL universal harness as all vehicle model harnesses are different. The Parrot harness no matter which one it is will have to be cut. We do 6-8 Parrot kits a week at my shop. You will need to cut the front and rear + and - speaker leads from the factory harness and radio. The input side of the Parrot harness speaker leads go to the wires coming from the back of the radio. The output side goes to the leads heading back into the factory harness. Then tap in to the power ground and ignition wires in the factory harness for the power ground and ignition source for the Parrot kit.

Gary,

Thanks for the reply and info.  The "universal" harness (Model QCHW-1) has plugs on one end that connect to the Parrot plugs and bare leads on the other.  Just eliminates the need to cut the actual Parrot leads in case one wanted to move the system to another vehicle later on.  Does your shop do rear radio vehicles?  Do you mount the Parrot in the rear and use extensions for the control panel or do you mount the Parrot near the dash and run wires to the rear?  Is there a Parrot kit you find most popular?  Do you wire all speakers?   Where's the best place for the mic?

Thanks!!!

Aren't there buttons you need to access on the device?  I would think you would want to have the device within reach.   If your OEM radio has a mute wire, you can get away with connecting only the front speakers.  If it does not have a mute wire you will need to connect the rear speakers as well.  They have to be connected so that the device will break the connection to the deck so it can mute the sound.

Three methods with amplified head units.
a) Use the vehicle specific adaptor leads for that vehicle.
b) Mute the head unit and dig out an old Nokia or Moto car kit speaker. Mounted under dash on driver's side I swear you won't notice the difference. (Not for steaming audio).
c) Mute the head unit and cut only the front speaker wires.
We're so lucky here, the kits all come with ISO leads and we have plentiful adaptors, except fully populated can be a nightmare.
