May sound silly but Classical music, full orchestral. beautifully balanced all the way through, but I admit it isn't everyday listening music.
Check all advice given with a meter

I've been trying to talk my boss into putting together a list of songs he uses to test his crossover designs with.  Here's a couple I can remember:

Paul Simon: Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes

The Fifth Element Soundtrack: song 2 and 14

Bela Fleck: Flight of the Cosmic Hippo

Ben Harper: I Want to Be Ready

That's all I can remember right now.  Also check these CD's out:

Mickey Hart; Planet Drum (awesome imaging disk)

Aria

Gladiator soundtrack

Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat (sadly, out of print)
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Steven:  Try demoing the Extremis kits on Pete Belasco's Deeper album.  There's a ton of clean deep bass information (as the title suggests) and the rest of the music is good slow / chill jazz grooves.  I was absolutely blown away when I heard this on the Kit61.  (Just tried it for the first time last night).

Also, I've been having friends over to demo for them.  Everyone I've had over wants a link to the kits.  One is ready to order 5 LCR's.  :-) Perhaps one of the most impressive pieces that absolutely shocks them is the combination of tracks 2 and 3 from the Matrix Revolutions soundtrack.  The dynamic range is awesome and the intensity builds like crazy.  This REALLY shows off system impact and speed.  The listeners are always left in awe after these two tracks, saying something like, "wow, I could feel the intensity without even watching the movie."  Nice.  These would be great tracks for testing any system.  Things get busy, fast.  When this happens the speakers either stay fast and controlled, or they don't.  (The Extremis naturally handles these aspects like a champ).  Incidentially, I was slightly disappointed with my Quart PCE's on these tracks.  There's also some good stereo effects for testing imaging.  Nice way to evaluate many system aspects on two tracks.

Prince (or whatever he calls himself now), because his recordings are clean and the songs offer a wide variety of frequenices to paly with.

The new Rhiann Benson CD might be the most well produced CD I've ever heard.
