Ok heres the run down, I had a 97 Monte Carlo LS, complete aftermarket system, all speakers amped, bitchin alpine HU with ipod deal, pretty good all around. Well the monte went to doodie and i bought a better car, 1997 Cadillac Seville STS. This car has all options except for moonroof. Bose sound system(sounds terrible in comparison to the Monte), whatever disc changer in the trunk. Here are the questions
1)When replacing the cadillac factory head unit do i need to leave it in the car for whatever functions to work.
2)I have controllers on the steering wheel, can these be rewired to work with my alpine unit(i highly doubt it)
3)What are the specs on the bose speakers? Paper cone, RMS etc. If theyre decent i might as well use them for now because the speakers from the monte cant be transfered(easily).
4)where is the factory Amp and subwoofer
Im sure i will have more questions, thanks for looking guys.

'97 to '01 sevilles dash kits from metra part # 99-2005.  As far as bose system, the spkrs are paper cones and the ohms can be 2 to 8 (i've seen both 2 and 8 in factory systems for cadi's).  If you're wanting to keep the factory amp and spkrs, then you need the GMOS-06 (also from metra) wire harness.  And Peripheial makes interfaces to retain steering wheel controls.  Be careful when messing with the factory amps in cadi's though, as I have seen some pretty wild things happen with guys trying to do amp bypasses on them.  I would suggest to either use the factory amp with the amp integration harness or go with a 4 chann amp.

Thanks for the info, if i retain the bose amp for the speakers and replace the bose speakers will that be an issue?
I currently have a 5 channel amp that i was using to push all the speakers in my monte carlo, sub included. If i go this route i would just remove the factory amp and find the power/ground wires to it and remove them.
However it would be really nice to retain those steering controls.
I really dont like paper cone speakers though.

I would suggest that if you go with the 5 chann amp that you:

1.  Change out the speakers.  The factory spkrs will eventually blow.

2.  Don't mess with the factory amp at all.  Wire the 5 chann amp directly to the speakers.

I would not keep the factory hu and change spkrs unless you test the ohms of your factory spkrs and test the rms and find spkrs to match.  Honestly, the better way to go is to use the 5 chann with new spkrs.

Perfection is the only standard.

gotcha, all i really care about is being able to use the steering wheel controls on my alpine, as that would be so sweet.

One last question i keep getting conflicting sizes on the Front speakers, Scosche seems to think they are 6 3/4, i've heard they are 5 1/4.
I found the site for Peripheral
http://peripheralelectronics.com/
They have something for the 98 Seville but not the 97 Seville, and a generic one. Which one do i want?

Well I was hoping for more input...however heres the plan,
I found the dashkit and wire harness. Tommorow I am going to take pictures of the stock system and figure out the safest way to run new wires through the car. Drill point etc. I might just have a shop run the power line, makes me paranoid drilling through a car this nice.
1)Tomorrow ill wire the aftermarket Alpine harness with the radio harness(any ideas on best place for running ipod adapter? im thinking glovebox or ashtray)
2)Tuesday the head unit will be put in without the SWC piece, i might have a shop do this if i cant get any more info on which one to purchase.
3)Tuesday the front speakers will be replaced with the ones from my monte(i hope assuming theyre actually 5 1/4), with new wire running to the trunk
4)Wednesday 6x9s will go in
5)reuse the subbox from monte carlo until i can make a new one and wire everything
