First off let me start by saying this site is great. I do not know much in stereo upgrading. I am kind of nervous to pull the trigger and by something I dont want or cant use so I will ask you for help. Now I know these are not the best name brands but this is what I have. I am currently running 2 Audiobahn ALUM10N subwoofers and a Fosgate 601s. I would like to change the fosgate 601s with the MA audio HK401sx. Numbers wise will this be a better option? Thanks.

150 watts RMS continuous power x 2 at 4 ohm

300 watts RMS continuous power x 2 at 2 ohm

600 watts RMS continuous power x 1 bridged at 4 ohm

based on the coil configuration on your subs and based off what the MA wants to see here is what I see.

the subs will wire down to a 1.5 ohm load. Giving you 925RMS by MA's claims. I would be surprised to see 800RMS at that load on that amp

Given your current amp you should be seeing 450-500 RMS with the fosgate, I would say an older amp producing more power then specified is not uncommon.

So given those things you still looking at less then a 3db increase by doubleing power. and even doubleing power you currently have you will still be at half power of what the subs RMS ratings are.

I just sold a bunch of Kicker ZX1500's that would take the 1.5 ohm load for daily use, and would far surpass the output of either the amp you have, or the MA you are looking at.

I would look into a well built 1500 RMS amp at 2 or 1 ohm. If a 2 ohm stable amp, make sure it is from a very repituble company.

Well maybe I just dont have the wiring correct. How would you wire the amp to the subs? All the information you can give will help. It will play for a while and then the amp will shut off.

What if I changed the subwoofers to MA audio MA100XE, instead of using the Audiobahn. Would the subwoofers have more bass to them? The box is just sealed, not sure of the measurements. Would the amp (fosgate 601s) be happier. Here are the specs on the subwoofers. Thanks

The real question is how are your subs wired now? If it is shutting off and giving you problems then more then likely it is wired incorectly or there is a problem int he wiring somewhere.

How did you wire your subs up to the amp?

Given the subs you have just posted above, still flea market brand quality, but coudnt be any worse then the audiobahns you currently have. Also would wire correctly to the amp for a 4 ohm load.

I just have a little input to throw in here. I had a MA HARD KORE 2ch, was supposedly 300w rms x2 @ 1ohm, 600w rms x1 @ 2ohms. I had a 6ohm DLS iridium and a 4ohm tweeter wired in paralled to each channel, the gain was turn almost all the way DOWN, and if I turned up the volume past 20/35 on my headunit (Alpine CDA-9831), the amp would shut of.

IMHO, these amps are GARBAGE. They will NOT put out ANYWHERE near the rated power, and mine wouldn't even handle the rated load(less than the rated load actually - should have been 1ohm stereo stable...

I would stay away from MA Audio if it were me. I swapped in an Eclipse XA4000 in the same place, again with the gain turned almost all the way to MIN, and it is 100 times the amp as the MA - SQ difference was noticable as well(had sme noise w/ the MA). Spend your money somewhere else on some quality stuff...

I guess what I am trying to ask is. In the same enclosure would the dual 6 ohm running considerably less than said RMS sound better than a Dual 4 ohm running at RMS or vice versa. That would be staying with the fosgate 601s amp.
