Hi All,
I have read and tried most of the fixes posted on this forum regarding this topic, so I thought I would post the specifics.
I have a 95 Audi A6 I recently installed a new HU to replace the old aftermarket unit. this particular unit (Panasonic) Does not have a ORANGE / white wire for the illum. So I capped it and went about the install. Everything seems to work fine, (including tail lights) except I have no dash lights or center conslole lights. Except at initial start of car. ( I get my climate control lights which fade in 3or 4 secs)I tested every fuse in the car (under hood and inside) and they all test ok. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Check the setting of the dimmer control on the dash.

Disconnect the ground on the new cd player and see if your lights come back again.

Tried that no luck. Although i did just notice that my
Sony RM-x82RF disc changer seems to have quit as well as my dash lights. could this be related?

the changer was probably tied into a circuit that affects the lighting.... is the changer wired up behind where the headunit is.. or elsewhere in the car????

Its a sony RF unit. So just the bus cable and the Red and yellow run from the changer in the trunk to the dash. Does seem that I have power at the changer, ( can eject the cartridge) but nothing at the controller. There is a strange looking inline thing on the yellow at the changer. it does not look like a fuse but it could be any idea if it is? white plastic a metal plate the yellow seems to wrap around it. with a metal band across one side. there is a gap in the band but no sign of a broken connection. no smell, no marks not sure if its supposed to be like that. (sorry)

try pluggin the original radio back in... see if the problem goes away... if it appears to go away it's probably something else that u need to still hook up on the new stereo... or possible defect in stereo...
