I have a Pioneer DEH-P9300 head unit and i am looking to upgrade my interior speakers. I am not in an area that allows me to go listen to a variety of good speakers (walmart, ick...) so am going to have to rely on other peoples opinions and recommendations. I would like to spend $300-400 on a set of 6.5 and 6x9 speakers. I listen to techno and rock.

What would you buy with this budget under these circumstances?

Personally for this price I don't think that there is a better deal. For the 6.5" I would go with Alpine SPS-600 $100(crutchfield.com) and for the 6X9 Alpine SPS-609 $120(crutchfield.com) and you can also get free shiping which interior speakers -- posted image.

That's a good budget for speakers. Do you want componets or coaxials?

How sensitive are you sibilance? Do you like "bright" sound or do you prefer more mellow tonality?

I'm no audiophile, but i can appreciate a well designed speaker. I have a pair of Event ASP6 monitors at home and love the way they sound.

As far as sibilance is concerned I don't have the ears of a disciplined audiophile, but i would say that my sensitivity to noise is more than above average.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the difference is between what a bright or mellow tonality sounding speaker. Hopefully the monitors I mentioned might give you some insight as to what my preferences are.

Hmm.

Can't say I'm familiar with much home equipment (I've got a pretty basic home theatre), but if these Event monitors sound half a good as they look I can pretty much guaruntee that nothing you wire to your deck and stick in a car will sound naerly as good. Studio monitor sound is NOT going to be your outcome here.

A bright speaker is a speaker with a very pronouced high-end . . . sibilance is when "s" sounds take on a sort of 'sharp' sound - at high volumes, personnally I find this characteristic actually physically painful - but some people like it. Mellow sound would be less high end and a warmer mid-range.

If you like mellower sound, I think the absolute best recommendation is CDT . . .

If you like brighter sound, Infinity or JL Audio would be my choices.

Since you are using a deck, you would want to stick with coaxial speakers.

I have decided to go with JL and I'm trying to choose between the VR650-CXi and the XR650-CXi for the 6.5'? The XR is $70 more. Anyone had the opportunity to compare these models?

I'm also comparing the TR690-TXi and VR690-CXi for 6x9s. The VR series is $55 more.
