2003 silverado cd disassembly

I have a 2003 Silverado with a CD player that keeps skipping and eventually ejects the disc. I tried one of those disc cleaners, but I have read that to really get it done right you need to disassemble the head unit and clean the lens. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Also, I can't find any instructions online about head unit removal for this vehicle. Has anyone taken out this head unit before?

Unless you smoke like a freight train, I really do not think the lens is dirty.  You are right about the lens cleaners not working, actually they cause damage to your unit.  The little brush slams the lens down everytime it passes over it.  I think the pickup is going out, but I do not think cleaning it will fix your problem. 

To remove the radio from the dash, turn the key on, put transmission in L1,  tilt steering wheel to it's lowest position.  Grab the top corners of the dash piece and pull it toward you.  Pull the bottom of that piece out.  Tilt the top of it to you and manipulate it out of the way.  I think there will be 3 screws holding the radio in the dash.  7MM or 9/32 socket or nutdriver will remove those screws.  If there are no screws, there is a plastic tab on each side of the radio, pull those tabs down to release the deck.  I am prettry sure those tabs went away after 02 but I may be wrong.

Wow, your directions were exactly correct. Thank you so much. Now I have it apart, and I am a little confused about what to do. The lens doesn't look like it has anything on it, but maybe I just can't see it. Is there anything I can do at this point other than clean it and see if it helps anything?The above picture is what I am looking at now.

You could get one from the junkyard, you will have to get the computer reprogrammed to accept the new radio.  But once again the life expectancy of the pickup is about 5 years.  It does not matter how much it is used, gravity is the enemy.  If you do get one from the junkyard, it's days are numbered too.  Try turning the deck upside down, if it does not skip that way, your pickup is going out.  Yes hold it upside down and see if it plays.  That was an actual Pioneer Bulletin sent out many years ago.  The suspension fails and the focus motor does not have enough torque to raise the lens when the shocks fail.  Upside down makes gravity help the motor to focus.
