I am hoping the mods will leave this one here, I think it's FAR too important to relegate it to the "miscellaneous" forum... Perhaps a copy over there, as well, rather than moving this one, but I know that not as many people see that portion of the site.
You all have very likely heard of the "Conficker C" virus that is supposed to unleash untold damages tomorrow... Well, here in the States (all of North America, really) the expected "death toll" is less than 6% of all PCs. Asia? Over 44% hi, all check it, conficker c virus -- posted image.
Click this link, and download the appropriate version of the file as it applies to your OS. Install and reboot. This is the patch for the targeted vulnerability of this particular worm. Worldwide, this worm is expected to be as destructive and disruptive as the Slammer worm of 2003. Do what you can, I know I have!
It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

I have heard that if you get the virus, one of the problems is that it blocks all sites that may be able to help you remove the virus, such as MMicrosoft, Symantec, so if that is true and someone needs the file, let me know your OS and I can get it and post it here.  Following is the file for XP Service Pack 2.  If you are running SP3 you should have no worries.

The file exceeds the size limit allowed by the site.  If you need the file PM me with your e-mail address and I will get it to you.   File is under 700K

This is all true. It also can corrupt all of your Word documents and jpg files. This corruption CAN be reversed, but if you remove the infection BEFORE reversing the corruptions, you wil lose your files. This damage is related to the FILEERROR_22001 virus of a few months back.
IF someone does get this infection, before you try to remove it yourself, post here from a clean PC, and I'll try to help where I can!

I am beginning to think it was simply an April Fools Joke. I have not heard of a single case of the virus. Has anyone seen or even heard of a case?

1: Yes, I have already serviced several PCs that got it or some variant of it. It was present and active in the US. Asia got hit hardest, though. Europe also got some, though not as much as was expected.
2: One of the fears was that it was an April Fool's Joke. Being as I am a network administrator for several doctor's offices, I was FAR more willing to err on the side of caution. "Better safe than sorry", someone once said. The patch still needed to be in place, whether there was a joke intended or not.
3: I can see where he would have gotten that. The tissues in the male member and the sinuses are almost identical in their function, which is why one of the side effects of Viagra, et al, is "minor congestion". Not that I know... hi, all check it, conficker c virus -- posted image. If the blood is occupied "elsewhere", it can't be in your sinuses! LOL

Come on, it had to be an April fool, researchers in Iran? Strict Moslem and especially sexual topics.
