Okay... Whats up guys.. One of my buddies referred me to this site because I'm basically clueless when it comes to this whole impendence thing.. I usually pick up on electronic things like this fairly quickly but I just cannot get a grasp on it...  I was looking at http://www.caraudiodeals.com/power-acoustik-fubar12w-p-1152.html subs which are dual 4ohm dvc.. so i called the local car audio shop to see what kind of amp to get they said i need to get a mono block class d amplifer at around 1000rms at 1 ohm... i said okay and looked around and found a few but while in the process i found these http://www.caraudiodeals.com/power-acoustik-p312w-p-2178.html which i assume are better? the only difference being higher rms rating and dual 2 ohm dvc? so I dont know if i get those do i need to get a different amp than the one they told me to get for the other subs? I'm just so lost any help would be greatly appreciated If anyone could tell me which of the 2 subs are better and what kind of amp to get for those that would be fantastic! Thank you! -Jake

I suppose I should also inform you im looking for SQ not a bunch of SPL... I want it to sound good not just be a bunch of low useless bass throughout the whole song.. I listen to alot of rock and heavy music so being able to distinguish between the drum beats would be amazing rather than just a long drawn out flat blahhhhhh bass if you know what i mean :)

First off...Are you doing install...? The Class D amp will allow you to use the full potential of those speakers(meaning an amp that can handle 1 ohm(although i would reccomend wiring it at 2 ohm  or 4 ohm for longevity)...Whether its dual 2ohm or dual 4ohm...It is all about how you wire + and - at the subs. You do not necessarily have to get a 1ohm stable amp...You can get a 2ohm stable amp and wire the subs to a 2ohm load and you will be fine...Power Acoustik is a middle of the road brand and you should be pretty satified w/ them...You dont need to look at power so much...For example...Memphis...Cerwin Vega subs do not require alot of power. You actually might be in the market for some 10's(music you listen to) ...What kind of stereo do you have...? I would recommend a 4 gauge amp kit...400-600 rms 1 or 2 ohm stable amp(If you have a little more to spend go for the Class D and we will guide you on how to wire subs, same w/ 2ohm amp)...A good set of 10's or 12's in a MDF box...And a little sound dampening material...

Finally, I heard a rumor that dual 4-ohm drivers were "better" choices than dual 2-ohm drivers, all else being equal. Why would that be, if they are less responsive?
The rumor part, I think, comes from the "better" portion of it. Amps that are stable to 2 oms per channel are a dime a dozen today, as are 1 ohm stable mono amplifiers. Dual 4 ohm cols will provide more "safe" wiring options for more amplifiers available today - 8 ohm, 4 ohm, and 2 ohm wiring options (per woofer) - and 4 ohm, 2 ohm, and 1 ohm options with multiple woofers. Not that the rumor is completely "wrong", but if the d2o and d4o woofers are dsigned SIMILARLY, there won't be (or, at a minimum, SHOULDN'T be) a tremendous effect on transient response

first id like to start off by saying when you are going for sound quality in a system 1.) you get what you pay for and 2.) good sound is more than just picking a sub and amp. as far as amps are concerned, power is power, the difference between a good amp and a bad amp is build quality, not necessarily power output.
now that thats out of the way, are you looking to get 1 sub or 2? what is your budget? what car do you have? do you have anything else already in your system?
as far as picking a box, they say sealed will be better for rock music but in reality, its not that simple so the next bit of advice i can give you will depend on your answers to the questions above.
