I am going to be putting a navigation unit from a 2004 grand prix into my 97 grand prix, I know the 04 uses a class 2 bus for the ignition turn on and to verify vin #s. I have read that you can lift pin 8(power pin) on the eeprom to bypass the theftlock? if this would work, what could i do to make the radio turn on since i have no class 2 wire? is there something else i could tap into on my 97 to power it on? Another idea i have is maybe getting a 04 bcm, finding the pinout, wiring power to it and running the class 2 data wire from the radio to it, so i would have power and this wire connected just to tell it to turn on, leaving my stock 97 bcm functioning and untouched.  i am posting here also and have a few links to what i have found http://www.grandprixforums.net/f41/04-headunit-in-97-03-gp-26435.html

here is the link to where someone bypassed theftlock on a gm class 2 radio by lifting pin 8 of eeprom

You really need to rethink what you are trying to do. There are quite a number of problems with your idea. The radio's aren't the same size, they use different steering wheel controls, you can't simply install another BCM to try and turn your radio on, the wiring is all wrong, you need a factory GPS antenna and map DVD, etc. Stop and think. You can install an aftermarket Nav radio into the car in a matter of an hour or two, get better results, more features, it will look better and can be expanded with outboard amps far easier. The factory Nav radio will only turn on through a data signal from a BCM that has been fully integrated and programmed into the vehicle. The BCM must be new because you can't reprogram a used one.

I have a nav unit and anttenna laying here. I already know what is meant to fit in my dash, original is a 1.5 din, this is 2 din, i have no problem with modifying to "fit" it in the dash. this is a project i want to attempt, I just wanted to know everyones ideas on all the possible ways to make this work. Im not real concerned with the steering wheel controls and do not want a aftermarket unit. and a used bcm can be reprogrammed by a dealer with a tech 2 scanner, but i really cant see the reason to if i can get around the theftloc on the radio, when power is put to the 04 bcm and the class 2 wire is connected from it to the radio, would it not at least turn on?  another idea for it to turn on is the class 2 data wire that the pcm has comming out of it (the factory 97 pcm in my gp) it shows a class 2 data wire on the pinout.  I would think it would turn on and lock, calibration error, or inop error since the vins are wrong/not communicating with what it is connected to. if i could get it to turn on, i can supposedly lift the pin on the eeprom, which is where the vin is stored and the nave unit should turn on and function after the calibration error.

BCM's are locked and once they are programmed to a car, you can't simply use a Tech II to chenge them. The data bus system differs greatly between the 97 and 04 models.

there has got to be a way to make this work. if i can get the radio to turn on showing an error or whatever it may be, i can handle it from there. even if the 04 bcm has wrong vins and whatnot, it should turn on with theftlock activated i would think?

I need the pinout for this navigation unit, came from a grand prix, i can post the number that is on it if its needed, anyone here have access to the pinout?

found out i can supposedly jump the power wire (B1) to the empty (B2) pin on the connector to make it power up, i contacted denso also and hopefully they get back to me with a complete pinout of the connectors on the back of the radio doubtfull but worth a try. i found the pinout for a 04 colorado, i think it would be the same but id like to make sure

i connected power to b1 and put the ground where it goes and it will eject and all of that, and when i jump it to b2 the fan turns on and then the backlight on the buttons come on and it stays that way for about 2 or 3 seconds and turns back off. nothing ever even shows on the screen. should i attempt the idea with the bcm to try to give it a signal on the data wire? or could i put 3volts or something to that?
