I have an Eclipse XA1200 amp and SW6210 sub.
Eclipse SW6210 Specs (will be powered by XA1200(500w rms @ 2ohms))
Fs 20Hz
Qms 6
Qes .5
Qts .45
Vas 62L
CMS .2mm/N
MMS 300g
RMS 8.2kg/s
Xmax(one way) 15mm
Dia 24.7cm
Sd 480cm2
BL 12.5Tm
No .125%
1-watt SPL 90dB
Eclipse manual recomendation:
Volume 2 cu ft
Tuning Freq 22Hz
Port length 4" pipe 26"long
The 12volts calc says I need a 32" long port to get that low in that volume. I can spare up to 3~3.5 ft3 in my trunk. Id like to have it tuned to 20 Hz since its Fs is 20.5 (unless someone has a reason I don't know about Why I shouldn't tune that low with this sub) I'm going for SQ also so feel free to recommend another enclosure type I'm up to any building challenge.
Also What TS parameters should be used to get the most accurate results in WinISD or other more elaborate box calculators?

New question: Does it matter where the port is on the box in relationship to the direction the sub is firing? In other words the sub is on the top of the box and the port is firing out of the left or front or any other side. I don't think it does but I don't know, and every diagram I've seen usually has the port on the same face of the box as the sub.

Reading that again I guess i was just wondering if there would be any large noticeable difference.

I guess it doesn't matter....
So.... is it bad to tune a sub box below the woofers Fs? Because thats what WinISD is telling me to do(averaging 3.15ft3 and ~30"long 4" pipe at about 18Hz) BUT the spec's from Eclipse are rounded very inconsistently which is making me want to build the box they describe in the manual BUT everyone of the 4 or so box calculators I've used has said that it isn't possible to tune to 22Hz with 2cuft and 4" pipe 26" long!!!! I'm very conflicted and can't make a decisionSQ Sub Box for Eclipse SW6210 -- posted image. Help!! pleaseSQ Sub Box for Eclipse SW6210 -- posted image.

The parameters as given don't  quite add up to the T/S model, as you'll note that the numbers for Qes, Qms and Qts don't compute, but I inputted into WinISD as best I could.  For the quest of having SQ, you should consider only sealed for this woofer.  The box is smallish, anywhere from 1 cu ft to 1.5 cu ft , net airspace.

That info is the EBP and is taken from Fs and Qes.  I only have the info you provided, .5 for Qes, and the Fs is consistent with Eclipse's website info.  That is a 41 EBP which is strictly into sealed territory for the reasons I will explain next.

Save yourself the enormous room required to vent this sub.  The box alone has to be rather big as you have seen with the models, and the port has to be equally long.  No matter how much you give it in airspace and port, you have a hard time keeping cone excursion below 12mm (12 mm Xmax is according to website).  When all is said and done you'll have 4 cu ft of heavy box for the purpose of very little *real* low end contribution in a vehicle situation.  Everything points to a simple sealed box for best results.

If you really want to give up 3.5 cu ft in your trunk for a sub, keep shopping and modelling potential subs until you find the one that will do justice to that kind of airspace.  This one, you could house two of them in that amount of room (sealed, of course).

For your earlier question, no, it is not bad to tune below FS.  Sometimes it is done for best SQ for a given woofer and knowing that very little output will come from the port itself.  It's one of those situations where you look at all the possibilities and pick the one that suits your purpose best.  And as for the direction of the port firing vs. the driver, in the trunk it's all the same any way it fires.  Some closer-up scenarios (maybe hatchback, def. truck cabs and small sports cars) should usually work best with the port and driver firing from the same baffle.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

First of all Thank You!
I took your advise and threw it into a prefab sealed box just over 1ft3 and have been driving around with it for a week and a half breaking it in and deciding whether i like it enough to build a custom sealed box for it. Its clean but its just not loud enough to compete with my exhaust.
Looking through the papers that came with it I found a yellow piece of paper that had the ported box dimensions on it with an explanation.
SW6000 ADDENDUM
This is regarding the ported enclosures, opening size and port length.
Due to the large amount of air movement caused by these subwoofers the standard calculations applied to the ported enclosures did not meet the high Eclipse standards in sound quality. After extensive testing by out engineering staff we have found these new specifications to be far superior to the ones in the manual. We apologize for any inconvenience this my cause.

This also explains the Thiele/Small weirdness.
So I will sacrifice some "tightness" for some SPL and go with their recommended ported enclosure. The port will be slotted 1"X12" 26" long. I was wondering if 1/2" MDF would be sufficient for the port only. The rest of the box will be 3/4" MDF.
I sketched this up the port will be vertical and to the right of the sub.

The whole box is going in the passenger side of the trunk. The sub will sit flush with that face and I will have two more 3/4" MDF pieces behind that side to mount it to.

Ok... now that im finish working 15 hour days durring the summer I can get back to my car and the now plentiful projects I have come up with. After re reading this post I have not felt confident in building my box to this subwoofer because of the design constaints like how I am mounting the amplifiers and how much space I am willing to give it in my trunk. So I am shopping for a subwoofer again. Somthing that will compliment the Exodus Anarchy 's that im also adding to the system.
So here are my requrements for the sub. I have 500w rms 2 ~3 ft3 MAX for a sealed or ported woofer that will hit hard in the 20~30hz range. I have looked at the Exodus shiva 12in but I would have to run only one of its vc because they are 2ohm and I don't know how acceptable that practice would be to a profesional :( ?
Ps. My amp is an eclipse xa1200

I'll also add that the subwoofer will be low passed at 50~60hz max depending on the Anarchy's performance.

Keep the ratio of a slot port opening at no narrower than 8:1   Redesign and use the recommended 4" x 3" opening if you can find a way.  That will be the quietest and most accurate.

1/2" MDF is certainly sufficient for port construction.
