Greetings, fellow car audio enthusiasts! I'm stumped here. I've tried THREE different Scosche plastic car stereo installation kits but so far NOT ONE has worked for my 1999 Chevy Prizm! And when I ordered my deck from Sonic, they included what they called an "installation kit" that turned out to be nothing more than a "pocket" that goes above or below a deck, but was marked for "78 & up Toyota". You guessed it, the thing not only did not work for installing the deck but I couldn't even make it fit just to have it there.
So, I've looked through tons of kits on ebay, hoping to find a picture of one I think is the closest to what I need. But so far, Metra offers the closest one. But when I check the Metra site and enter my vehicle, it's not the right kit!
By the way, the stock stereo mount works with aftermarket decks, so it's in securely and evenly. It's just an eyesore!
This is getting very frustrating here! This is the first car head unit I have ever owned that I could not find an install kit for. In fact most cars don't even need them, but since I'm going from full DIN to half DIN, I'm going to need something. I get tired of looking at the open space above and below my deck! I'd be happy with just a black plastic filler plate that would go around the deck like they had in the old days. No luck there either!
Does ANYONE know the correct brand and model/part number of an installation kit that correctly fits a 1999 Chevy Prizm? Do you have any friends or family with a 99 Prizm who might have installed a half DIN deck? Please ask around.
So, until I find the correct plastic kit (1-piece or universal), THIS is what I'm forced to see every day! Unsightly, but until I find a kit that fits, I'm stuck with this set-up!
THANK YOU for any help or advice!

this is the deal, dash kit makers wont make kits for unpopular car models, especially if it has to be a special kit that only fits that car because it doesnt make sense business wise. if you have tried three or four different kits and none are exact then i would say that the specific kit doesnt exist. the best you can do is make something work. the universal pocket might be your best option to make something look decent.
how does the pocket not fit? it is too wide or too tall? if its too wide then you can use the smallest trim and mount it so that it fits right behind that the factory dash panel. if it is too tall then take your radio out and re drill the screw holes so that the radio will mount all the way to the top without a gap and then reinstall the pocket. drill the holes in the mounting brackets, not the radio please.
sometimes all you can do is rig something up so that it looks the best it can.
if nothing works then you can buy a sheet of abs plastic and cut it so that it fills in all of the gaps around the radio and fits in behind the factory trim.
and i just thought of something, have you tried searching for a GEO prizm? its the same car, just an off brand chevy name.

THAT'S THE ONE!!! Holy cow, I feel pretty freaking stupid right about now! I've searched online forever. I even checked Metra's website but must have missed that one. Maybe if I would back off on the adult beverages a little I might find what I'm looking for the next morning. NAWHHH, that wouldn't be much fun!
Thanks for your help! I very much appreciate that link! YOU ROCK!
