Hello all. I've seen a lot of people talking about building walls for their subwoofers. What is the real point to that? It's not that I'm new to car audio, I've been into it for s long time, but only recently have I been hearing so much about them. So, what are the pros and cons?

Back at work they had a closet in the car audio room. It had differing configurations. I kind of remember it having 12 15"s but when I was working in ng it had six ported SQ/SQL 15s. I sure miss not spending more time in there as it is gone now, but it would rattle and shake the rest of the store.
The point it, having extra so as not to use all you have. A SBC getting around easily vs an econobox having to strain to stay with traffic.
What is really cool is how the bass emancipated whilst the cones are not not even breaking a sweat/not moving much....so I guess less distortion, less mechanical noise so you hear more of the sound and not so much the movement of air.
Good luck on any future builds or installations.

If anything cone excursion is increasing allowing smaller woofers with huge Xmax. A trend of using a bunch of smaller drivers in place of 15's or 18's. Efficiency is less but the heavier cones allow for smaller boxes. Louder is about moving air.
Walls are great for SPL. Imo adding a wall is converting your vehicle into a stereo on wheels and becomes dedicated for such. For a daily driver you have now limited the functionality and inviting theft, Since you cannot hide a 20 cubic foot box now dividing your car in half.

Thanks for that explanation. So, no wall for me. I like my current build anyway. Subwoofer Walls? -- posted image.
