I have a Pioneer DEH-P880PRS that has been running fine for many years until a few months ago when it would no longer switch to XM mode. It used to go from XM to Tuner to Aux2 input but now, it just goes from Tuner to Aux2. In the process of trying to figure out solutions, I believe I found it to be related to the face. I noticed it will work as it should occasionally after taking the face off and putting it back on. When it works, it is as if nothing ever was wrong--all my stations are still programed and everything picks up on the satellite side right where it left off. The contact points on the back of the face look very clean and the radio itself looks undamaged. This occurred out of the blue.
I'm wanting to know if anyone else on here has ever had a problem like this and if so, if there were any solutions. Thanks in advance for reading :)

i doubt it the face plate doing that, if you can select every other source except one the source button is working. The ribbon cable went out in those all the time that connected where the face plate connects to the radio in the folding hinge thing, sorry can't find a better word to describe it lol. I personally think its the unit and just time to replace it or it could be the old xm unit going out and not telling the radio its plugged into it
33 years as a installer now just a retired old guy. Favorite thing to install/topic are remote starts/car alarms. Stop using test lights!!!

Does the XM portion have it's own constant power source? If it does, put a toggle switch on the yellow wire so you can turn it off and then back on. When you lose XM, simply flip that switch off and then right back on. In the end of that era we were installing switches on all of them because we were having to reset those combinations regularly. If it is the one I am thinking it is. 2 separate pieces, one to interface with the P-BUS of the radio and then the XM tuner.

I appreciate both responses. As for the ribbon cable, I will have to look into that further. In spite of the age of the radio, the face hasn't been removed that often prior to having the problem. In fact, the face has hardly been opened since I don't listen to CDs anymore.
With regard to the power source, I have to admit that it's many years since I built the system in the truck and I've forgotten how I wired it. I think I slid a power wire under the 4gauge wire feeding one of my Kicker DX700s. Regardless of how, I like the idea of the switch. If it turns back on with the switch without me touching the face, then I would think it's something internal on the XM receiver. The receiver is very old...a first generation Pioneer receiver that was originally made to be used as an FM-modulated receiver but has been running off the IP-BUS cable for about 15 years now. I'll give it some more thought. Thanks!!
