can i buy another battery and put it in my trunk so that my amp can run from that battery? if so do i need to do anything special to get the battery to give off power to the amp?

It may be easier to upgrade your alternator and battery under the hood. If you want to put a battery in your trunk you will need a dry cell that does not require ventalation or a custom set-up that would protect your vehicle from battery acid and yourself from battery fumes.

Adding a second battery is possible. HERE is a good description of the basic theory and how to do it. Realize this is only for listening to your system with the car off. For normal listening, the only good solution if you need more power is a high-output alternator.
