I was wondering it someone could help me installing amp (for subs)in my 1992 Lexus LS400. I heard its hard to run wires from passenger room to the trunk because of the gas tank located behind rear seats.

I know there is a stock 8inch sub in back, and also stock amp in the trunk to run this stock sub. Is it possible to maybe use these wires and run aftermarket amp? Or do I have to do the usual way and run the wire from battery?

Please give me your help.

There are ways around the gas tank, look for them. They will probably be on the outside(away from center) of the tank, so pull the back seat and try to fish the amp wires there.

Someone should drill a hole in hightowers head, keep in mind this site is for all levels of installers, some of us just are not as good as hightower. Anyways Auex is correct, remove the rear seat and on eighther side of tank is a triangular opening to fish wires through. Do not use wires from factory amp, since the current for the new amp will require at least 8 gauge wire to power it correctly. As for the firewall, you may have to drill a hole, be extremely careful!!!!

auex and geeque: Thanks for your replies! That's the kind of advise I was looking for. So as Geeque said, I guess I can't use the stock amp wiring. I did check the wiring on the stock amp and it was too thin.

I did install an alarm on this car myself (clifford) , and I know a place I can run wires through firewall (behind the glovebox)
