i was wondering, what color is the ground wire coming out of the back of this Head unit.  and should i tie in the ground for my power invertor to it, i heard somewhere that if you use the same ground, it will get rid of all engine whine.

It's the black wire. The engine whine can be cause by a couple things. But mainly it's caused by either a bad ground connection or too many ground connections (also known as a ground loop). it's best (if possible) to use the same ground for all your stuff. You could try the using the ground on your power inverter-that might help. But if all else fails...just run a wire from the negative on your battery.
