Hey guys. Alright,  I was just thinking about doing a little work on my car. I took out my subs a while ago, why? I forget but anyhow. Before I took them out, I had the box resting on my backseat, facing the trunk. I no longer wish to have them this way. Now, correct me if i'm wrong, but its how far away you are from the sub that will make it seem louder? Which is why people have them facing the trunk, so the bass wave will bounce off the back wall, and when it gets to your ears the wave is much larger correct?

Ok, I know that post seemed rather pointless. Let me elaborate a tad bit. As I mentioned above, I had my subs laying on the back seat facing in the trunk. I would like to have the use of my back seat again, so, I was wondering if I were to put the subs, as far back in the trunk (closest to the hatch), and face them towards the cabin, would that provide the same effect as leaving them on my seat? I cannot put them in the space between the wheelwells like most people do, you see, I had built a wall to replace my rear seats. The box is too big for the wheelwells. I had to take it all apart because my sunroof was leaking on everything and almost destroyed my amp. I have attached an image to help you understand what i am talkin about, in case i didnt describe it well enough. Sorry its such a retarded looking image. It was a quick sketch.

it is correct that you want the subs farther away from you, all cars have different acoustics so I suggest you try different locations and see what sounds best

Excellent drawing Picasso, and yes you want them as far back as possible. In each corner at 45 deg. would be better though.

lol. hey man, that was a quickie drawing like i said, but, you get the point didnt ya? Anyways, im tryin to keep this as simple as I can for the time being. I am looking to go all out in the next few months, assuming my finances can go along with it. As for the 45 degree angles.. what does that do?

its not the distance from you that makes it louder. what could make it louder if if you create some sort of load on the sub. ie. if you point a sub into the corner of the trunk, there is a more restricted amount of space for it to breathe into causing some load. this has the effect of increased SPL. (thats a real simple explanation) thats why a hatchback with a pair of subs pointing upward toward the angled hatch usually does so well. the hatch causes the loading.
