What is connected to the ORANGE / white wire? Does your Blaupunkt have illumination inputs?

The HU has a dimmer wire. That wire is connected to the ORANGE / white wire, the dimmer wire, coming out of the toyota harness.

The problem you have is that you need an illumination wire, not a dimmer wire and Toyota does not provide that wire at the radio harness. You will have to get that wire at the input of the dimmer, any of the parking lights of the vehicle or anywhere else someone on this forum can tell you. Please use a DMM when testing your wires. You are looking for a wire that shows 12v when the lights are on, dimmer up or down.

I dont need the illumination wire, the stock toyota harness has it. The HU has no illumination wire anyways, just a dimmer. ( I tested it by hooking up the ill. wire from the harness to the dimmer wire off the HU, nothing different than no wire connected at all) The HU lights up, i have no problem with that, but i want to be able to control how bright it is at night. The dimmer control works, it just does it the opposite way.

 I guess you did not understand what I was saying. Let me explain a little better. Automotive manufacturers use three different types of lighting in vehicles, illumination which is 12v positive at all times when the lights are on, positive dimmer which is 12v positive when the lights are on, but will reduce voltage as the dimmer is turned down until it reaches ground and negative dimmer which reads  12v negative when the lights are on and will reduce voltage as the dimmer is turned down until it reaches 12v positive. In your vehicle you have a positive dimmer and a negative dimmer, NOT illumination. On your radio, it REQUIRES illumination. Your radio only dims the lights a certain degree at nightime.. So when you give an illumination input  a postive dimmer, it will reduce the lights a certain degree which is what it is designed to do, but remember, positive dimmer reduces voltage, so when you dim the dimmer, the illumination wire on the radio gets less voltage than 12v and it acts erratic. That's why your experiencing your problem and you are not the first person I have seen with this problem, this is common and to make matters worse, radio manufacturers sometimes mislabel their radios with ORANGE / white wires when they should be orange. I believe Blaupunkt does this. Believe me or not, this IS your problem, I know from experience, it is my job to know these things.

OK, yah, i have an orange wire coming off of my HU that is labeled illumination... so i should wire this directly to the dimmer itself then? You said im looking for a wire with 12v when the lights are on, up or down.. wouldnt this not have any affect of the illimination? I want to be able to control the brightness of the HU.

Its interesting how the HU, HU manual, and harness all have conflicting wiring information.
